State Cabinet Approves Concessions in Stamp Duty and Registration Fees for Public Interest Land Transfers

The Taxes Secretary will have the authority to issue orders allowing these concessions based on recommendations from District Collectors.

The State Cabinet has approved a measure to provide relief or concessions in stamp duty and registration fees for land transfers related to public interest projects. Specifically, those who provide land for the construction of houses for landless BPL families may receive a concession in registration fees and stamp duty for land transfers up to 10 cents per family, as long as they are not classified as family under the Kerala Stamp Act.

The same concessions will also be applicable for land purchases made by victims of natural disasters within five years of the event, with financial aid from the government, and for those who donate or purchase land for the benefit of disaster victims.

Similarly, those who donate land for the establishment of free palliative care centres, rehabilitation centres, or schools for the disabled, orphaned, or AIDS patients may also receive the same relief, provided that the land is not less than two acres.

The Taxes Secretary will have the authority to issue orders allowing these concessions based on recommendations from District Collectors. Existing procedures will be followed for other land transfers related to the public interest, and decisions will be made after presenting them to the Cabinet.
