NOIDA: On the lines of Delhi’s Aerocity but on a much larger scale, an Aerotropolis with commercial and residential spaces would come up around the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar.
Aerotropolis is basically a metropolitan sub-region whose infrastructure, land use and economy are centred around an airport. The proposal to develop the area around the Jewar airport was announced by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) at a meeting on the region’s Master Plan 2041 on Monday.
While Aerocity in Delhi has largely commercial spaces, Aerotropolis will cater to both residential and industrial needs and have state-of-the-art infrastructure, a senior official said. "It will come up on the other side of the airport with the Yamuna Expressway passing through them," the official added.
For holding international sports events in the future, a proposal was also made to develop an "Olympic Park and Olympic Village" in the master plan. Moreover, a golf course, a central business centre, and logistics hubs will also be part of the master plan to be executed by 2041, the official said.
