The Greater Noida Authority has embarked on an ambitious journey to breathe life back into the Lohia drain. This effort involves not only restoring the water body's vitality but also crafting an expansive riverfront that holds great promise for both locals and visitors.

Creating a Recreational Haven

In an endeavour to enhance the appeal of the area and address rainwater management concerns, the Greater Noida Authority has set its sights on developing lush green zones, recreational parks, and serene water bodies. This upcoming riverfront oasis is poised to become the largest recreational enclave in Noida and Greater Noida, offering a breath of fresh air to the region.

A Solution for Rainwater Management

The Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Noida Authority, Ravikumar N G, underscores the multifaceted benefits of this project. Not only will it enhance the locale's aesthetic appeal, but it will also provide a practical solution for rainwater management, a critical issue that often results in waterlogging within the city.

Creating an Integrated Corridor

The project's objective goes beyond revitalizing the Lohia drain and its surroundings. It aims to create a well-connected corridor that enhances mobility and brings neighbourhoods together. This vision involves comprehensive development, encompassing waterfront beautification, civil and landscaping enhancements, drainage cleaning, water treatment installations, and other vital infrastructures.

Enhancing Connectivity and Accessibility

Existing infrastructure, including roads, bridges, utilities, and transportation networks, will receive upgrades to improve connectivity and accessibility within Greater Noida. Effective flood management measures, including stormwater management systems, reservoirs, and embankments, will also be integrated to mitigate flood risks and safeguard surrounding areas.

Invigorating Urban Spaces

The project envisions captivating and functional landscapes along the Lohia drain, fostering recreational activities, active mobility, and social interactions. The riverfront will feature green spaces, meandering promenades, cycling tracks, pedestrian pathways, and upgraded cycle tracks, tree plantations, and parks.

Looking Ahead

To bring this revitalisation vision to fruition, the Greater Noida Authority has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to select a consultant. This expert will craft an all-encompassing architectural and landscape blueprint for the Lohia Drain's rejuvenated waterfront. The application submission deadline is set for September 6, 2023, with technical bid evaluations scheduled for September 8, 2023.

Promising Future for Greater Noida

This ambitious endeavour aligns with Greater Noida's growth trajectory, which recently saw the approval of the Master Plan 2041. The master plan lays the foundation for the city's future development, promising industrial growth and urban expansion across 40,000 hectares over the next 18 years. The Lohia drain rejuvenation serves as a beacon of progressive infrastructural development and urban enhancement in the region.
