Delhi to move faster, key infrastructure projects to benefit citys realty

As the Ashram flyover connecting Delhi and Noida reopens, travelling between the two cities is expected to take lesser time and become smoother. With such infrastructural projects and multi modal integration with the Delhi Metro, citizens will face less traffic in and around Delhi NCR.

The national capital of Delhi has been growing over the years, with several micro markets like Noida, Gurgaon, and Faridabad, among others, emerging as key players in the region. While this has improved the reach of Delhi NCR, it has also impacted the commute between the areas due to the increasing traffic across the city. As a result, Delhi has been increasingly witnessing flyovers and road extensions. The latest addition to the same is the Ashram flyover extension, connecting South Delhi to Noida. Heres all you need to know about the development.

Ashram flyover
The traffic index of Delhi states that there are around 371 vehicles per sq km in Delhi. This translates into heavy vehicular congestion, especially during the peak hours of the day. Taking cognisance of the situation, the Delhi government had previously approved the extension of the Ashram flyover. The flyover, which had been shut since the beginning of 2023, has been successfully extended connecting Ashram to the much-frequented Delhi Noida Expressway.

Underground tunnel at ITPO
Another important project that has helped ease the traffic is the construction of an underground tunnel below the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) at Pragati Maidan, comprising five underpasses. The project has enhanced connectivity between Mathura Road and Ring Road which witness heavy traffic snarls whenever major events are organised at the Trade Fair ground.

Multi modal integration
Integrated Multi modal Transportation System (IMTS) includes the interlinking of two or more different modes of transportation like bus, metro or car, either government or privately operated where passengers have to switch modes during the journey. Urban bus systems generally serve train and subway stations and often extend to local airports. A major goal of integrated multi modal transport system is to reduce dependency on private automobiles and enhance the use of public transport.

Others connectivity projects
Other projects include doubling the existing lanes of the Sarai Kale Khan Flyover, and the construction of a U turn on GD Marg and Sarita Vihar. Moreover, the corridor development of Grand Trunk (GT) Road from Old Yamuna Bridge to Apsara Road is on the cards.

All in all, these infrastructure projects are a step towards improving the overall connectivity in the city. Also, they open new avenues for realty developers by creating investment corridors for potential homebuyers on the back of better connectivity. Besides, such projects will help areas, such as Narela, Bawana and Burari, which despite being in Delhi have not witnessed much development, to come under the growth radar and are anticipated to follow both residential as well as commercial expansion on the back of multi modal connectivity.
