Until December 31, the owners will have to pay just the property tax without any penalty or interest, while from January till March, there will be 10% penalty and after March, interest will also be added to the outstanding.
The PMC had started the scheme in October for all but after opposition from activists and political parties, the decision to limit the scope of the scheme to Rs50 lakh was taken.
While fund for implementing projects can be used from plan fund allocation by the government, such funds can’t be used for certain expenses. The corporation will have to find own revenue for paying the salaries of employees.

“If property owners have already paid tax this year, the amount (50% balance) will be adjusted in the next financial year,” GHMC said in a statement.
According to the PMC records, around Rs4,500 crore is to be recovered from property tax defaulters. This includes Rs2,000 crore as principal amount and Rs2,500 crore as penalty.
The AMC has also directed Suresh Tahiliani, owner of the ceramic business in Naroda, to stop using a portion of his residence as workplace as he had earmarked a small space of the property as his office following the lockdown period.
Starting December 21, the MCC will geo-stamp residential and commercial properties after measuring the property, checking the number of floors and the building-usage purpose.
The civic body has released the ward-wise list of the properties along with the amount due. As per the list, in ward number 1, there are 131 owners owing Rs 2.9 crore, while in ward 2, 100 property owners are yet to pay Rs 2.5 crore.
